Taffites, Rocket Roy (of Team Oarsome)
seems to have made a challenge. He's claiming that they have three (soon
to be four) people over the million meter mark so far this year (see his
post in General section 'Watch out the Brits....'). Basically, he's giving
us a bunch of baloney.
This is one Taff that's not going to put up
with any bl**dy poo from a Englishman!! I
say give 'em hell mates!!!!!!!!!! Put in those meters like you never have
before.
Speedy |
Howdy tafffers,
I didn't put in
my usual weekly metres this week, 'cause work got in the way, so I decided to
have a bash at my first full marathon today (Saturday). I know you're supposed
to build up to these things gradually from half marathon, but Lance was on the
TV kicking the arse out of the continentals and it seemed like a good time to
have a go.
As far as loving the pain goes, there was a whole bunch more
of it to love than usual, but aside from a dodgy walk, no damage done.
I
wrapped it up in 3:16:21 in the end, which is far from speedy, but its a
start...
Aside from the average daily metres bit, that's the last of my
short term goals ticked off, so I'm working out what I want to do next with the
erg. I quite fancy the sound of "rowathlon" as it's more of a feat of stamina
than a 2k slap dash and suits my style better, but I need to shed another 1
stone in weight to get back on the bike properly. I figure my daily half
marathons are about as much as I can sustain in a single sitting day on day, so
it could be time to add a second sitting.

My wonderful "new" model C arrived while I was gone. I just put it

I had fun biking on the carriage roads at Acadia National Park.
Rowing has certainly helped my biking. The most fun part is rapidly passing
people on long steep hills, especially if they are all tricked out in cool
racing clothes that look sprayed on and official biking shoes, and you are in a
baggy, flapping T shirt and sneakers with paint on them!

Someone

The one thing that amazes me however, is how all the other clubs
are coming to the Taff area. One way or another, we've sucked all of you in. You
might as well change clubs and row for the TA's. As long as you're Welsh of
course. Do I dare say.......We've become an institution.

I'd
say we're all mentally ill for continuing to get on these things. I've been

Hey team,
Still here, but in a real difficult
month.
Its shutdown in work for both myself and Chippy, which means we're
pretty much got 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for 3-4 weeks. But we are keeping
our peckers up, and I have managed 30,000 meters this week so far. He came over
to see me yesterday (we need to talk about Taff Attack, and Rowing every day or
we get depressed!). Rob (Chippy) asked "what motivates me to row?" I replied
"The thought of you beating me Chip!".
On that note I'll tell you all a
story about our Chippy. Last week he got his head on and decided to row 5,000
and set a new PB. However, Chippy being Chippy he decides he wants to break 19
mins come what may. He explained to me that with 1900 meters left to row his
heart rate is already at 177 bpm (his theoretical maximum because hes an old
Taff!). Throwing caution to the wind our brave Chippy soldiers on at the same
pace. 500 meters later (and still with 1400 meters left to go) he explained to
me that he could no longer feel his arms, and his heart rate was 11 beats over
max at 187!!!!!!!! His splits dropped to 10:40 for 500m (he STILL didn't stop!)
and he eventually finished in around 24 minutes. WHEN TAFF ATTACK ASK FOR
COMMITTMENT CHIPPY WILL BE AT THE FRONT OF THE QUE! He loves the pain
man!
The shutdown goes till end August and then I fly to Northern Ireland
to get married. After that Im on honeymoon for 3 weeks in New Zealand. BUT I AM
DETERMINED TO KEEP THE METERS UP EVEN IF IT MEANS DIVORCE!, if I go quiet trust
me I am thinking of you all and the pain your going through for the
TA!
Keep it up all Cheers,
Chris.

Hey gang!
Still not rowing because of Achilles but
biking some, which doesn't seem to strain it. I suspect the different angle of
the feet on the C model (my B had flex feet that were mounted on the wooden
rests perfectly vertically, and the C has the toes pointed outwards) may have
caused this. I'm not sure what to do about it as it doesn't appear that you can
move the flex feet on the C...I'm anxious to get to that first million meters
but I don't want to do it at the risk of trashing this tendon so I am having to
be patient.
It's great to have team members that look out for each other!
You guys are doing great with your heavy schedules and up coming nuptials! I
haven't checked lately how we are doing in the standings--going there now--hope
I'll be contributing to the effort again soon.

Just joined Taff Attack as qualify
through residency (lived in Wales - Cardiff - for the last 20 years). After a
long absence from C2 rowing (due to injury and general lack of focus
for some
periods!), I'm now back on the C2. I'm in training to do a charity 1 million
metre challenge (1 million metres in 5 months) and plan to commence the
challenge at the beginning of September. The hope is that while I can raise
money for charity, I'll also be able to lose some excess pounds and try and
improve my PBs which are now 18 months old.
It's
great to have a Welsh contingent online and I look forward to contributing to
both the postings aswell as the
