Hey, Sir P...keep yer scurvy mitts off Speedy's moniker. mad.gif We thunk up that name for him, and we're thinking up one fer you too!

Back in the galley today for a pokey 30 min.

Rode my new bike to work and back today and it was soooo sweet. 11 miles each way, av 16.1 going and 16.8 overall. That means the trip home was over 17, and not really working very hard. Once I get the shifting figured out and tweak the fit a bit this is going to be really fun!!!!

I am feeling very mouseish.. It sounded like a good idea but shying away from it. Sunday is out and Saturday could be difficult, did you have any time in mind? AM or PM?

I managed 8,250 Metres in 30 minutes this morning, places me in the top 30 in the on line rankings. Still someway from being able to call myself 'speedy', but headed in the right direction.

Row, row, row the boat ...

My machine arrived today. She is a beauty!! Completely refurbished and absolutely smooth.

I couldn't resist doing 5xxx metres just to break it in. I haven't rowed for a number of, erm, weeks, and it was quite hard. Another 5k before I go sleep tonight to get into the habit of rowing first thing in the morning and last thing at night.

Beats getting up at 6.00am to get to the gym for 7.30am. I'm not sure I can remember how to log metres on this site, it's been such a while. At least I can verify all of my metres from my machine!!

I'm aiming for BIRC, but won't compete unless I feel I will do myself justice. Maybe I'll just make a social visit. We'll see.

Anyway, have a good one folks

Good to be back in the seat. Another 5k tonight. A little faster than the earlier one but not nearly back at training pace yet. I don't feel too bad considering I've not been rowing for a while. Tomorrow's possible stiffness may give lie to that last statement though. I feel as though I should be ok as long as I don't overdo it.

Toying with the idea of doing 6k tomorrow morning, but will probably stick at 5ks till the weekend.

I'll sleep well tonight.

Never too young to start setting goals! Have you gotten him a Taff all in one suit?

This week I've rowed 2 pokey 30 mins and 1 pokey 10K. Today I am so lucky, I can get my row in before dinner, so will do another easy 10K and actually get to bed before 1:30 in the morning!

I have a goal for next summer. I want to bike Mt. Washington. Not in the race, I just want to bike up it without stopping.

Not to start a competition with our kids, but... wink.gif

I think your son is the top male 3 year old. My daughter Taylor turns 4 this month, so your boy will have the 3 year olds to himself.

My 2 year old hasn't had the patience for 4 minutes just yet. I think they both just like to watch the rower on Rowpro go back and forth. Taylor designed her own pink boat and likes the girl's pony tail.

Hi all

I slept a little too well last night. I missed my 6.00am call, but trust me, I don't feel one pang of guilt that I did. There is nothing like a good night's kip. Hopefully it won't be too long before I adjust physically and neurophysiclly and I just have my usual seven hours in the land of nod.

I felt a little tired this morning but not stiff, which was a pleasant surprise. Rowed 6k this morning. It's amazing how much you lose after a layoff. In my warmup I will usually do some drills, like just arms, half slide and then full pelt for 10 pulls.

Usually on the full pelts I see 1'22" for at least one pull. I was hoping for about 1'18-1'19" about now. The fact is I saw only one sub 1'30". Oh hum. It's getting tough already not to pick up the pace, but that's just my natural competitiveness trying to get me into trouble.

Hopefully, I'll start to see 1'22" again by the end of next week.

Later
Bernard

It's pretty funny to watch. Taylor's so serious when she watches the computer screen. They both just like being in the home gym with me. Their favorite is the stability ball. They "helped" put the Bowflex together. Then they like to vacuum with just the hose from the mini-shopvac.

I did not grow up in Phoenix. Here for the job. More importantly however, this is where I met my wife. So Phoenix has been pretty good to me. I could do without the bl**dy hot weather though.

I grew up in So-Cal. (Glendale). Haven't followed the Lakers since the days of Magic. Do love the 49ers though.

Rowed 7k tonight. Everything seems to be on course. I don't feel exhausted either. Still I'll resist the temptation to up the pace for the next couple of weeks. Just get used to hard work again.

According to my machine I have rowed 23916 metres these two days, which I guess isn't so good. but I aim to be doing 10k in the morning and 10k in the evening on from Monday and a half marathon next Saturday. Then I should be ready for my 2x1hour daily rows.

So that means 8k twice tomorrow and 9k twice on Sunday. Steady does it.

Hi Chippy and Taffs,

Yes, been a bit quiet on the Oz front lately, nothing much happening except for ticking along at the gym with the 'squad', logging up my Ks to try to keep Byron in sight! In a bit of a lull after all the PB attempts and finding it hard to raise the enthusiasm for the 500m, 1K and 2Kers. how about doing that 6:50 at Enfield Chippy to fire me up ohmy.gif

Great to see you back Bernie and getting stuck into it and ready to resume the friendly rivalry on the metres board with Niall. He's on a strict training schedule to break 7 mins for 2K by ??? so there's an opportunity to catch him up with some long rows. Don't feel too disheartened by a lack of 1:22 pulls, I haven't seen a sub 1:30 yet in 2 years of erging biggrin.gif

Nice to have Carla fired up now the long hot summer is drawing to a close, how far is a Mt Washington bike ride by the way? Just need to energise Godfried/Jasmine/Mike Z and the big K regulars will all be back in harness.

Q. Which of the D's willl be the first to 1 Million - Debra or Daren smile.gif

A. ???

Cheers,

Martin smile.gif

Hi all

I went to bed at 11pm last night and woke up at 9.30am. There could have been a nuclear explosion during the night and I would have slept through it. I rowed 8084 metres this morning - this makes a round 32000 metres on my new rowmobile. I finished just in time to watch the continued annihilation of the Aussies at the Oval[cricket]. Sorry Martin, I had to mention the fact that the ashes are coming home!!

I hope to be going under 7 minutes before BIRC. Much will depend on where this first month of distance work takes me. Hopefully, injury and illness apart, my base fitness should be up to allowing me to do the real power endurance stuff. We'll see.

My max pull improved to 1'25" this morning but then I was really pulling in anger during the warmup. Still it shows that I haven't lost as much as I thought.

Speedy, I have to give you the most respect because I don't see how you can row so many metres day in day out with absolutely no side effects.

Must watch the cricket

Hi

How do I go about getting/buying Taff shirts, all in ones etc?

I rowed a total of 32k on Saturday and Sunday. I start the 10ks for a week tomorrow morning. My sleep patterns seem to be returning to normal.

This is the quietest I've ever known this thread. I could swear I can hear my postings echo.

Bernard,

Drop an email to sales@godfrey.co.uk and they'll help you out (it's how I got my AIO).

All,

As promised before I went on holiday, I arranged a rowing session with Lynsey today at my David Lloyds Lesiure Club. The main purpose of the session was to get Lynsey rowing again and obviously it's always nice to meet fellow team members. Having met Lynsey, it reinforced my view that we've got the friendliest team about!

Hopefully, Lynsey will be inspired to do more rowing (once the stiffness from today's session eases!).

Lynsey says she may even enter the Welsh Indoor Rowing Championships so she can meet more Taffs!!

Did a time trial in prep for the Enfield comp. Didn't go to plan as you'll see from my Blog. However, coach is happy with it considering where I am in my training (i.e. no speed work yet, nor taper, nor correct warmup rolleyes.gif ).
Byron Drachman
I was tired today and the legs were a little sore so I skipped rowing and just did an easy, short trike ride. Then I read about Carole's 100000m performance and I feel like such a wimp.

Hi Niall, good on you getting Lynsey down to the gym and back on the erg. Often just what's needed to get going again. Only a few weeks to go (?) before Enfield so we need to see some serious form in those Blog writeups if that 7:08 is going to happen. And Mike W is looking dangerously close to a sub 7 2K soon too ! Holiday's over - time for some life-threatening times laugh.gif

Whatever the result, hasn't it been a fantastic series? I'm a cricket fan anyway, but having the home team doing so well and having such knife-edge matches has really got a lot of normally disinterested people watching.

I really want England to win back the Ashes, of course, but quite honestly I think the victory will be a little hollow if it's just due to time lost to bad light. I want to win or draw this Test fair and square, rather than because we've taken advantage of the weather. For one thing, the Aussies will no doubt be saying "you'd have lost the Test if it weren't for the weather you cowardly poms" or something like that. And I'd have to put my hand up and say "yeah, you may be right". =)

Such nail-biting Test matches I haven't watched for some time. Sure, things get tight in ODIs and Twenty20 matches, but it's less common in Tests.

One thing has really, really annoyed me during the series though... I really wish there wasn't a mic in the stumps, because Gilchrist really frigging annoys me. Every time Warne bowls it's "niiice Shaaaaane" "niiice one Warnieeeeeee" . Thankfully, he shuts up when anyone else is bowling... He must really have the hots for Warne, though.
