As far as the challenge goes, how's
this.....between now and the end of the ranking season (30 April), add
another 2 million meters to your total. That would average you out to
19,418 meters/day. You want the challenge???? Give it a shot

I decided it was time to row again since I haven't been
on since Thursday (marathon). Couldn't decide what to do. Messed around with the
pace calculator and figured I needed 2:07 pace on an HM. But I was feeling maybe
like that was too ambitious. So I decided to start an HM at 2:07, and if it was
good at 5K, to keep going until I was at 10K, and if that was good, to keep
going to the end.
Put Terminator in the DVD and had a go. It was pretty
comfortable until 5K to go. Then my feet both went numb, and my calves, front
and back, started to try to pull. So I slowed down for a bit. Then I tried
trading rate for pace and got the pace back down with a higher rate for small
bursts. Finally ended up on the last 2K doing the dead man sprint and almost
puked.

Hey Carole,
When you're back and fit again, I know
I'll be chasing you! How's the leg coming? Got a new cast? When I broke my wrist
last year I went through 3 casts--blue, purple, and another purple one. They
didn't have any pink
.
I could not row at all for 6 weeks and finally in the 7th week I was allowed to
row with the cast on still (it was supposed to come off, but we were on vacation
in Vermont.) In fact my first row this season was at C2, after a tour. I tried
the slides, which seemed nice for the back. I'm still considering them.
I hope your skating/rowing workouts are keeping you from getting too
aggravated after training so hard with your new coach!

Warnie,
You can get a bunch of
different routines from the C2 home page. Click on 'Workout of the Day'. There
is also a good training plan on the C2 UK site. Under the 'Training' tab to the

Hey Taff's,
was anyone else going to take up Speedy on
the 2 million challenge or was I the only one
I mean I
have not been going for speed as I am trying to lower overall body but I thought
a 2 million challenge would lower weight cut credit card bill (never off erg to
spend), increase time spent in home(erg is in basement) more time with the
family ( read never left basement) and so on.
Or where you just fooling there
Speedy,
in that case
I am off the challenge and back on ice cream Buttie.
Anyway ZJ is still pulling good numbers for his real short legs( Tough go he
has my genes, and my Jeans are only 32 long

is determined to pass the next team, and so should we all be. Less then 3
million behind three months to go, I think we could possible catch team oarsome,
what do you all say. Mike

Sorry gang....2 million more meters during this season is
not on my agenda! I plan to be doing about 60K/week, which should come out to
one more million, not two....I need more recovery time than would be possible
with a goal of 2 million meters by April 30. I'm pretty sure that much rowing
would just put me on the injured list and useless to myself and the
team.
I can see myself having the goal of reaching a total of 2 million
for the season, because I'm at 900,000 right now, so that's 1,100,000.
Is anyone interested in a variety of challenges, with a new one every
week, like the Oarsome team is having? Of course it would help those that are
trying to do 2 million more because it would give them something interesting to
do along the way. What to do you say? I don't know if we want to go through the
rigamarole of voting on the challenges, but we could just have one of the
Founding Fathers, or Sir Speedy, announce what the week's challenge is. And then
we all either do it, and post our results, or don't, with points given for doing
it. And then maybe the ones that do all of the challenges get to have something
added to their signature, or something, just for fun.

so why don't you come up with the weekly challenge? That could be your challenge
to think of something challenging to challenge us every week. Challenge on??
seat5
Jan 21 2005, 04:25 PM
Hi Speedy,
I don't know if what I'd come up with
would be considered challenging by anyone else. It would be better if someone
who has at least been coached, or has really followed a training program, or
something, came up with the challenges, I think. Right now my rowing consists of
occasionally rowing one of the "events" to try for a PB, kind of alternated with
what I call "mixed junk", which is rowing some fixed distance and whatever feels
good at the moment and stopping whenever I feel like it (always at 10MPS
though), or doing, say, a 10K and sprinting for 100m every 500, or sprinting for
200m every 1000. I haven't even dared to do any 500m sprints yet. So what I
would think was a challenge would be silly to you guys. If someone else came up
with some challenges, I would do my best to do them.

Carla,
It seems like you also don't usually get a
chance to row until late, even later than I. (When do you get up in the morning?
If you finish rowing at 2 a.m. and then, I assume cool down for a while before
being able to go to sleep, you must be tired in the morning.)
Today some of
the kids had a snow delay start for school, so I was able to row during waking
hours
- what a difference! I usually have a hard time getting
to 10 km in 40 min late at night, but this morning I did and SB for the 10 km -
38:40.5, had been 39:16! (I don't get PBs anymore, being rowing for a while and
getting too old.)
Maybe you are more of night person, so rowing late is good
for you. I am more of morning person, so to row early was great. If you are also
a morning person, and you get a chance some day to row early, it might be good
for you as well.

Hi Dave,
I end up rowing very late because, even
though I get up at a fairly normal time (starting Monday I'll be up at 7 at the
latest) I can't row in the morning, I'm too stiff (lower back). There's no time
between breakfast and lunch nor before dinner (once in a while I can do that,
but not often. ) We eat around 6:00 and I hate rowing with almost any food in my
stomach, plus I have tons of stuff to do inthe evening, so I end up starting no
earlier than 11:00. Usually to bed by 12:30 or 1:00.
I catch up on the
weekends.

Frankly, I thought I would never do another one. But
somehow, I know that not doing that distance for a long time will make it seem
like a much longer distance. The HM I did last week seemed quite short compared
to the marathon, but more intense, and this time around I convinced myself that
since I wouldn't be going as fast as the HM, it would be easy to do the marathon
again.
I only have to improve by about 5 minutes to beat the 2001 40-49
