Shout me down in flames but I think the Taff Attack first team will pick itself:

Speedy (capt), Paul B, Phil T, Carla, Niall. (Chippy, can you believe the TA has rowers of this quality?)

I don't think we need to actually "pick" a team. In fact, I think it's against the rules, to prevent "tactical placement". Instead, the fastest 5 people that qualify become the first team (including at least one woman and one LWT), then the next 5 become the second team, and so on.
Daren C
I had two attempts at the 6k, a week apart, and took off about 30 seconds, so I'm hopeful that I'll be able to knock off another decent chunk before December's out.

My quest for LWT isn't going so well, though. After being 12/7 last week, I was 12/9 this morning. *sigh* I just don't understand WTF my body does with the food I eat. I haven't been over-indulging to any great extent. Very depressing, really, and it makes me think "to h*** with it". But I've entered EIRC as a LWT now, so that's £9.50 written off if I don't make it.

I'm really excited! New 6K PB--30 seconds faster

24:06.1

I didn't really know if I could hold 2:00 for 6K--I knew I've done it for a 5K but that was last year, and 30 seconds seemed like a big chunk to try to take off. But I really wanted to do better for the team challenge. Anyway, I was really excited to actually manage it. Does it bump us up to 2nd?

I don't know how to enter my time for the cross team challenge. Also, is it just done by averaging our 5 times? Just curious how the scoring works. It takes me forever to find stuff on the UK forum. Plus they keep putting the UK forum link in the log book and then taking it out 2 seconds later, it's driving me crackers.

Carla,

I've reported your new 6K time click here to see.

That might just get us to second placeas we were only 1 second behind prior to your update (and it looks like it is indeed the average of all 5 times).

Cool, thanks Niall.
I don't know if I can get it faster but maybe I'll try again next week. Yesterday I did my hardest sort of workout (8 x 500) and my legs felt kind of dead today. But I had my Taff Attack T shirt on! Can't quit with a Taff Attack T shirt on.

Thanks to Carla's tremendous 6K update, Taff Attack are now in 2nd Place in the Cross Team Challenge.

Morning Taffs and Taffettes.

I rowed the challenge again.

Rowed 5K warm-up, 6K challenge.
5K - New PB 18:49.7 (-2.1 sec)
6K - New PB 22:28.7 (-12.1 sec)

5K split in 6K PB: 18:43.8

So there's a new mark for Niall (and Daren) to aim for.

Dougie's certainly laying the gauntlet down. Probably wont be until towards the end of the month that I have a crack at the 6K though.

Awesome Daren! This must be pushing us into first place maybe?

Nothing I do will make any difference to our standing as there are at least 3 heavyweights who are much faster, and even if I get to LWT within the next 16 days or so (ha!) I expect Citroen will retain his position.

But I'm happy to have made more than a minute's progress in 2 weeks. I hope the other monthly challenges yield similar results. =)

Daren, I suspect all the LWTs may struggle to stick to weight over the next 16 days. I've still not found the Xmas/New Year opening times for Basingstoke Centre Gym. (That may not count for the folks with their own ergs.)

Your minute off the original time is excellent progress cool.gif . This 6K is a b'stard of an event. I've been using the PM3 pace boat to avoid slowing down. (Only good thing about a 6K is that it's good training for the Surrey IRC 3K on 14th Jan.)

I may try another before Dec is out. I'd like to aim for 1:50 pace. I've got to try some 1500 intervals and some 3K intervals.

The Taffs need a second team, Niall is the 2nd LWT (unless he beats me), we need another two HWTs (apart from you) and another Taffette.

Looks like we need to bring the average down by 40 Seconds. A pretty tough task. If my maths are correct each one of us needs to reduce our times by less then 10 seconds. Speaking for myself that is going to be tough but with correct preparation could be possible. huh.gif

A strong performancee from a 2nd V would help motivate me. biggrin.gif

Trying to convince my wife she should have a go but I am not getting much joy right now. I believe she could do a respectable 26Mins, 15 days to keep working on her.

You mean 10 seconds off the finish time, not 10 seconds off the pace, I hope!

Chippy,

In fifty years time you'll be led in a box on your back, and all your flesh will have rotted and fallen from your skeleton. If, at that point your still interested in rowing, and, the then members of Taff Attack can hold you together long enough to be out on the scales, you may qualify as a lite weight - until that day, (or if hells freezes over in the meantime) its HWT all the way son!

Just had another go at the 6k and broke the 21 min barrier....20.49.6...pleased with that biggrin.gif

I think that was about an 85% effort so I think I may be able to knock of another 5 secs before the months out.

So it's over to you now Big Phil...lets see you under 21 mins biggrin.gif
