Had another stab at the CTC 30mins r20 this evening. Very
much spurred on by Carla's magnificent performance. Although I improved loads, I
couldn't emulate the great lady. Managed 7506m (1:59.9) which is an improvement
from the previous 7382m (2:01.9).
Splits were:
1:58.5 r20
1:58.9
r20
2:01.1 r20
2:00.6 r20
2:01.9 r20
1:58.3 r20
Must say I
was really pleased with the final 5 minutes as I really had to focus hard and be
very determined to maintain the pace. Just wish I'd done the same for the
previous 15mins!!
This hurt a lot!! Might just try it again after
Manchester!

Good for you on your own machine, that must be great to
not have to schlep to the gym work out! What fun to have your whole family on
your team. I'm still trying to get Dave to row. Maybe if I didn't look like and
sound like a train wreck at the end of hard rows he might be more
interested.
Great job on the 30 @ 20, you're really hardly behind at all
and with all your intense training most likely will pass me. I'm trying again
next week but don't think I can do much better. The wierd thing is that it was
no where near as exhausting as an all out free rate 6K.

I am math challenged today I guess. I just subtracted and
forgot it was an average but then divided my answer by 5. Duh!
Tried
to do another shot at 30@20 but I just didn't have it. I was on schedule to do
it but around 15 minutes just crapped out. I think that 5K I had been planning
on was too much on my mind. So I did that instead and got a PB by about 18
seconds. For a change I just went totally free rate, no 10MPS or anything and it
was 1:56.7 at av 29 spm. That is actually faster than my 2K PB pace, snort
snort. The higher rating was easier and harder at the same time. It felt like
nothing until the last 1K and then I actually stopped I think 6 times and did
some 100s at 10MPS and then did some silly ricocheting short little idiotic
strokes and then finally finished pretty strong. Up to 994 Nonathlon points.
The first 2K came out to 7:51.4, only 3 seconds slower than my old 2K
PB.
I'll do the 30 min. piece next week when I'm revved up for it. It
just doesn't pay to try switching your workout plan at the last minute if you
really had a goal in mind.

Gutsy effort

How is that Knee
boyo.
Chippy
Hi
Chippy, glad to see my lack of contribution to CTC doesn't mean I get totally
forgotten.
Just seen the specialist again today and he talked through the
results of the MRI scan.
The good News is that I have not ruptured the
ACL and it is unlikely I will need any operations.
The Bad news
:
I must keep my leg straight for another two weeks and cannot put any
weight on my leg for another 4 weeks. So on crutches for at least the next 4 to
6 weeks.
Apparently I have fractured the top of the Tibia, but not
dislodged any bone, provided I am careful this will heel with no further damage.
I have crushed and slightly ruptured the cartilidge but although may never
fully rebuild it is best left as it is rather than remove the damaged part and
left with nothing.
The Medial ligament is partially ruptured but it is at the
top and should heel itself without any lasting damage.
Finally the cruciate
ligements show some sign of stress but not ruptured.
The quads are
wasting away rapidly but I finally have an idea of the extent of the damage and
a realistic timescale on when I should be active again.
Best of Luck
to everyone in their CTC attempts, I'll be doing my bit as soon as I
can.
Regards
Phil

Good to hear that you
won't need surgery, and all should mend OK on its own -- but you're not making
it sound much less nasty. I have fractured one kneecap, and dislocated my other
knee twice, so I'm a little squeamish where the legs are concerned.

In Wales (and in other parts of the UK I think), we have
a book called the 'Yellow Pages' In there you can find all the answers to lifes
questions. The expression used to be "Let your fingers do the walking"
In
much the same way Dwayne "Lets his Rowing do the talking" - Well done
mateo!
Phil T,
Your right mate, in the scheme of things the
fracture is meaningless, its also great news that your ligaments are still
attached to your body - I think their quite important. I just wanted to ask -
was this REALLY painful when you did it? Did it feel like your knee was on fire,
and you cant even put a toe on the floor? If it did it sounds like what I did
(crashed a motorbike and crushed my cartilidge) - I had seven years which
started as discomfort, then aching, then pain - then I met a nice fella in
morriston hospital (Mr Holt) who had a laser, a knife, and a shit load of
knowledge on using them!
No I dont complain anymore - What I'm saying is,
watch the knee it may get better then get worse, but if it does its easy to sort
out. So you'll be okay mate.
Off now to row with Xeno (And he looked
quite knackered when I previewed it earlier!)

Yep,
Pain like I have never felt before, First night I had twice the number of
painkillers I was meant to have and still did not sleep all night. The knee
swelled up and completly engulfed the knee cap. It was nearly two weeks before I
could consider putting any weight on my leg. Now the leg is locked in a brace
the pain does appear to have greatly reduced.
How long ago did you do your
knee? When can I realisticly expect to start doing some proper training
again?
