BERNARD!!
You've
been holding out on 50K of rowing
. Just when
I thought I was getting close, you've entered a pile of metres and extended your
lead. Realistically I'm going to struggle to bridge the gap as my training
programme right now is limited to about 40K-60K per week.
I think you may
have to join the distance competition with Debra, Chris and Chippy
Keep
up the metres guys, we're pulling away from MIT but really need to extend the
lead and start attacking Team Oarsome before we can feel comfortable.

Hey Niall
I'm following the
C2 program for six days a week, AND, the Australian Surfrower plan for improving
2k. This means I will do about 100, 000 metres a week for the next couple of
months and then bring it down to around 70,000 for the following couple of
months in time for a series of trials (500m to 10k).
I have to admit I am
enjoying myself as the C2 program I know quite well and revolves around
UT1(70-80% max heart rate) and UT2(60-70% mhr) rows. These are not high
intensity, are manageable and technique intensive. They are great for recovery
as well. I'm never too tired to do a row the next day and can guage improvement
easily and quickly.
Including warm ups I will row for about 1 hour 10 on
six days a week using the C2 program. I was doing this religiously before I
joined Taff Attack and wasn't so busy at work. Once I buy a concept2 I should be
able to do my hour then shower without too much fuss.
The surfrower
program is a nightmare and is based on short, sharp and knackering sessions, but
there are only three of these short sessions per week. These sessions typically
last about 40 minutes, but are murder.
Over the bank holiday weekend I
merely did 2x60 mins UT2, a 3x10 mins UT1 and, yesterday a 2x20 mins UT1. Today
I did a 30 minute UT1.
The new year has been good to me so far. I'd like
to keep it that way!

Great focus Bernard. One training program is clearly not
enough for you hence the adoption of two programmes!
What target time are

Jan 4 2005, 12:51 PM
Daren,
What rowing goals do you have for this
year? I've seen a few posts by you recently and feel strongly that you need
targets to aim for (aswell as that heater for your garage!).
Let's see
them published here so we can support you in achieving them
. You still
got a sub-7:00 2K in you??

Hey Niall
I suppose I'd
better share my goals to be reached by the end of April, 2005.
500m -
1'36
1k - 3'22
2k - 6'59.x
5k - 18'40
10k - 38'59
Some of
these are more easily attained than others. I may struggle with the 1k and the
5k, but it's probably best not to prejudice the results and see where training
takes me. I can always adjust these goals, if necessary.
My goal for BIRC
is 6'52".
What about yourself? What are you hoping to achieve in the
erging domain this year?
Bernard
Niall
Jan 4 2005, 02:45 PM
I've got a short list of targets for this year:
- sub-7:00 2K by the end of March (my birthday)
- Weigh <75Kgs by BIRC 2005
- Sub-6:40 2K at BIRC 2005
- Help Taff Attack get a top 5 position in the University/College
Standings
I guess the rest of the distance PBs will fall inline
with the 2K performance so I'm guessing something like 37:00 for 10K and 17:30
for 5K (these may be way out though).
So my main concentration is BIRC
performance and also to compete in the Grand Prix (i.e. attending most of the GP
events not just my local Cardiff one!).
Daren C
Jan 4 2005, 03:10 PM
Um, um, um... 5 million metres in the calendar year, to
lose a stone or two and to crack 6:55 for 2k. The latter is my 'immediate' goal,
and the others are ongoing long term goals. I don't know what my current 2k time
would be. I'd probably fail to go sub-7 but that would be at least as much the
effect of the damp conditions as any loss of fitness.
Oh, yeah, and to
do that marathon I need to do...
Niall

We don't have a basement/cellar. Most modern homes in the

they'd add that much to construction costs.

hurting in odd ways, it will be a major milestone just to do that many meters in

BTW, what IS a conservatory in "British"? We yanks call a music school a
conservatory. YOu must mean the kind of conservatory that is in the game of
Clue, which I never quite understood. Do all houses over there have
conservatories, and what do you normally do in one? Just curious!

Carla
Daren C
Jan 7 2005, 04:22 PM
A conservatory is like a greenhouse on the back
(normally) of a house.
e.g.
Most
houses don't have them when built, but many people add them to the house later
on if there isn't one already. Actually, I ordered a conservatory to be built
this week. I'm just awaiting planning permission.
They're used for
various things... as an interface between the house and the garden, as a dining
room, as a kids area, as a second lounge, as... anything really, although I've
never seen a conservatory used as a bedroom or a kitchen. Or a bathroom, come to
that.

In the UK we don't normally have large
areas to the front of the house, my house is a short open plan lawn to the road.

My front lawn is not very big, either. Sun porches don't
stick out from the house, really. They stick out the same amount as the regular
front porch where the front door is, so the house still has a square footprint.
And the windows are regular windows, not to the floor, but they are lined up one
after the other so that the wall is all windows.
Maybe I should join an

Speedy,
A tip to make things
easier for you
"Isn't it" in proper 'wen-glish' should be pronounced "in
it"
If your a valley boy you would drop the t all together and just say
"ini". We also stick 'butt' on the end of everything ('Butties' were a pair of
close work mates who worked at the coal face together).
So a typical
conversation may read:
Q: "Speedy's one hell of rower, ini butt?"
A:
"Aye butt"

I rowed that 2K mostly at 10
