I'm getting goosebumps just at the thought of the sort of split time you'd record for a 500m piece! ohmy.gif

Oooh, good luck with the relay race, Dwayne. I'm sure that's going to be a lot of fun (and hard work). Did you see the online video of the MAD Team's 100km relay race?

If not, check out one of these:

http://www.taffattack.com/downloads/video/MAD-Team-100k-Relay-WR-320x240.wmv (Widows Media Video, 4.6Mb)
http://www.taffattack.com/downloads/video/MAD-Team-100k-Relay-WR-384x288.mpg (MPEG, 14Mb)
http://www.taffattack.com/downloads/video/MAD-Team-100k-Relay-WR-720x576.avi (AVI, 46Mb)

They're all the same thing, but the quality is better on the larfer files.

Actually, Niall, you're right. I should have a pop at that 60 minute time. It's rather old compared to my other times (October 28th).

It's not my oldest time though; 500m is October 15th, HM is Oct 16th and 10k is October 23rd. I reckon I should tackle 10k, 60min and HM soon. I've tried the 500m a few times and failed every one, but I'm going to try a new technique next time - small, high rating strokes, rather than full ones.

Get those hands away as soon as you can for a quick stroke. I've certainly learnt how effective (and easier) the stroke is using this technique.

Hope that doesn't come across as me telling you how to suck eggs when I'm still a "plodder" unsure.gif but I want to make sure that I pass on anything I pick up to help you out with those PBs. (Even though it's me that needs all the help he can get as I'm trailing behind you wink.gif )

I'll leave the real advice to guys like Speedy and Martin!

Wow, great work everyone on your record breaking rows! and Debra for reaching 1 million...and everything else I've missed...I figured with everything I am having to get done I'm better off rowing then posting, don't have time for both. On schedule for the 200m challenge though it's hard to fit it in right now, most nights I'm finishing my row after midnight so by the time I shower I'm up till at least 1 and still up at 7, one more concert, I'm on the home stretch....it's a big solo though so the closer Sunday gets the more wretched I feel

Keep up the great PBs everyone, reading about it really recharged my battery, I'm going for a 30 min PB tonight. Oh no now I've committed myself

His 60 mins looks OK to me - there's just a big white spot at 42,195m. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

And even the new 5k is a bit slow - unsure.gif - sorry Daren - blink.gif - I know I can't beat your times. tongue.gif

I was right on schedule to hit my goal and a few minutes from the end--the average was actually right on 2:02.6--3 minutes from the end, --I tried to spit, couldn't, then gagged and choked, stopped, and almost barfed. Look at these splits

Great going, Carla. I've no idea how you keep such a low stroke rate for so long. When I tried 30 minutes at a low rate last week, I had to speed up after 15 minutes because I was too tired.

Great work on the 8 million, too, Dwayne.

Lord knows what the Uni of New Mexico are up to - they've overtaken Team Oarsome and stolen into 3rd spot now. MIT are extended their lead over us again, just as we were closing it down.

Also, the Willamette Rowing Club have overtaken Supercanoa, so they might take us from behind if we don't watch it. =)
Niall
Carla,
Shame on you love, a PB without any large red characters!! You of all people should know better. Great job on the 30-mins PB. I guess the race plan next time will be to exclude the spit-choke-gag-nearbarf element as that should get you an extra 14 seconds worth of metres.

To keep the PB ball rolling I had a go at getting under 39 mins for 10K this morning. Plan was to keep at 1:57 pace, pick up the pace in the last 500m and then kick home from 250m out.

With Chris's words of wisdom from Sunday still fresh in my mind ("I never bother with a warmup, I just get on the rower and get on with it!" - That Chris is so raw, a true Dragon!!) I sat on the rower and got on with it. Felt comfortable maintaining the 1:57 so with 1500m out I decided to up the pace to 1:56 prior to my kick home just to squeeze some extra seconds out of the distance. Kicked home strongly with 250m to go and came in at (cue large red characters!) 38:46.9 (an improvement of 20 seconds!).

Oooh, nice one, Niall. Catching me up again on that 10k. =)

Right back atcha, baby. OK, who says I'm competitive?

As stated yesterday, I thought I should tackle my 10k again since my previous best was October 23rd. Well, I was scheduled for a 10k RowPro Internet race today, and Niall's new 10k PB made me decide that today was a good day to go for it...

Old 10k - 38:34.5 @1:55.7

New 10k - 38:07.0 @1:54.3

27.5 seconds off. Thanks for the kick up the bum, Niall. And Godfried wink.gif

Oct 23 - 1215 strokes, 8.23 DPS, 31.6 SPM, 226.6W, 7.2 SPI
Dec 07 - 1210 strokes, 8.26 DPS, 31.8 SPM, 234.7W, 7.4 SPI

Carole Mac - How appropriate that you should be Welsh Champion given your close alliance with the Taff Attack team. Can't believe I've been to two championships (BIRC and Cardiff GP) and still haven't met you! It'll happen at some point so I look forward to that.

Hey Carole!

Super congratulations on your championship! You must feel like a million bucks. (or would that be a million pounds? but who wants to feel like a million pounds!) By the way, what was your time & how big was your lead on the #2 rower? I haven't looked at any other part of this forum in ages, can't hardly keep up with this one right now. Any pix from the races of you getting your trophy?

When you have to do a 30 min piece at 20 spm, what pace do you have to do that at? I'd be curious to try it. I prefer a low rate, it feels better and more powerful to me, and I know my form is better and safer for my back at a low rate. Sometimes I just count to 23 (or whatever my spm is) and don't look at the monitor and then discover my pace has improved.

Carla

oops I see you answered that in the prev. post, I'll have to try that in a couple of days, sounds like fun tongue.gif

Hey Niall & Daren,

Carla ..felt brilliant I must admit ..in fact the boys have all commented they ain't seen anyone as happy lol... could hear chippy and bore da shouting from the stands to ... ...

time was 7.39.6 1.54.9 splits were ;-

1.55.0 29spm
1.55.8 29spm
1.56.2 29spm
1.52.7 32spm ....in last 100metres even saw 1.45!!!

was three seconds faster than nearest rival ..who has beaten me all season to .

I think you will do well at the 20spm 30 mins challenge as you are so strong at low spm's .. I am just getting use to them .

we have a league going on Oarsome praps Daren could sort one out for you .. after all he has nothing else to do ...ggg biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Hey Carole!By the way, what was your time & how big was your lead on the #2 rower?

We watched the race and the lead was zero until the last 200m. But Carole 'raced' it like a trooper and did what all class racers have to do, ie:
Sit, Follow, Wait, Stomp all over opposition when it matters most, at the flag!!
Well Done, Great Entertainment xx
Only thing you missed was the enormously huge gloat at the end of the victory. We expect better of girls from 'Up Norff'

I passed 5 million meters today!! Yay! I get a long sleeved t-shirt. Good thing because I probably won't make the holiday challenge 200k. I'm at 55k and tomorrow is the half-way. Well I'll make the 100k anyway and still be eligible for the Craftsbury camp draw.

Congratulations on all the PBs everyone!! It gives me lots of motivation to get back into training again.

Happy rowing!

Debra
Debra
Oh, just to clarify - that's 5 million lifetime total not season total. It's taken me 4 years to get to 5 million. Hopefully it won't take that long to do the next 5 million.
seat5
Way to go Debra!!! Enjoy that shirt!

I didn't realize tomorrow was halfway. My plan says I'm right on schedule but now that makes me nervous!! I'm doing 8334 per day, with this Saturday off and Christmas eve off.

But I can't check my total because for some reason, I can log into the forum but not my own logbook. It's totally frustrating. I don't know why I can't get into it. But I think I'm at about 70K. That's not much farther than you are, you can probably do it.

I'll mail you a surprise if you do it!

Carla
Debra
Carla,
I'm really going to try hard to do it. I still have school until the 17th and am swamped with work. After that I can really pile on the meters providing I keep healthy. I've been fighting off a cold or something for a few weeks now.

I like surprises!! That gives me extra motivation to finish the 200k!!

Take care and I sure hope your concert goes great! I'm sure it will!

Hope you manage the 200K Holiday Challenge as I want to know what surprise Carla's got for you unsure.gif

Bernard,

Although I've just about got my nose infront of you right now, I'm not going to get to a Million Metres for the season by the end of today. After my 10K PB yesterday, my old body was too sore to do anything last nigth so I'm a session short. I'm not going to be able to claw that session back today as it's my son's Christmas play this afternoon (he's a camel!). So I'll probably make it to about 994,000 by the end of today.

So it's open to you matey. Leave the finishing line nice and tidy for me tomorrow biggrin.gif
Daren C
Congratulations on the 5 million, Debra, and good luck with the holiday challenge. Yesterday I passed 1.5 million metres (season and lifetime, since I only started in August as you know) and also 100k in the holiday challenge, as well as the 10k PB so it was a good day all round for me. biggrin.gif
Niall
Well done Daren. 1.5 Million since August is a fantastic achievement and shows great focus and determination. At this rate you're looking at 4-4.5 Million for the season ohmy.gif and probably that elusive sub-75Kg weight huh.gif

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mike!!! I would say I wish I'm as fit as you when I'm 49 but I'd have to say I wish I was as fit as you NOW!!! Keep up the great progress.
