Thanks for the pats on the back, everyone!
Guess
what...I'm NOT rowing today!
The only muscle soreness I have,
surprisingly, is upper body. Legs are fine, but I'm sure if I tried to row today
I would immediately regret it. Also, I obviously did not drink enough
before/during the row because afterwards I had about 4 2 litre Nalgenes of water
before I went to bed, still thirsty, and spent all night waking up and drinking.
The 5th bottle was empty in the morning, and I was still thirsty.
I had
had a double breakfast before the row, which I started a few hours after eating,
and ate about 2000 cal. of pizza for dinner. By the time I went to bed I was
starved again but too tired to go down stairs and do anything about it, so I was
climbing the walls this morning.
I also should have worn gloves because I
not only got blisters on top of all my regular callouses (which is OK), but
developed 8 more huge blisters on places I've never had them before, mostly on
the right hand.
Speedy, thanks for thinking I could go sub 3 without
breaks, but the breaks were all less than a minute, (which would get me to 3:05
or 3:06) and I don't know if I could make it and not drink at all. Maybe if I
used a camel back or something. As it was, I only stopped long enough to take a
few quick gulps, the last one being really big and I saved it in my mouth and
swallowed it over the next few strokes in bits. When you did your 2.5 hour
marathon, did you stop? If you didn't , how did you stay hydrated?
Still
excited just to realize I finally have made the goal of doing all 10 Nonathlon
events--I've had this goal for 3 years!

Hi guys ...... I did it
Not the best time in the world but I am so pleased and proud I did it,
never ever thought I could achieve a marathon of any description in my life.
Most importantly of all it was for charity.
First half was good and to
plan, only 2 minutes slower than my HM pace but I hit the wall around the 2 hour
mark for 15 minutes. The last 15 minutes was also a struggle and my cold started
to kick in.
I managed to finish the last 1500 with a 2:04 split per 500
so delighted with that.
Final time was 3:17:20:8, like I said not the
best and probably slowest amongst taffians but not bad for my first
attempt.

Like Warnie I hit a wall at

Although my time was pretty crappy (3:26:52) I'm just glad I was able to
finish it. I really thought I was going to give up at about 10km to go, but I
eventually made it.
Just think about how many extra Taff metres we've put

for a marathon is NOT CRAPPY so either that was a typo, or you're superhuman!
Right up there with Speedy & Xeno. I thnk the all time women's record is
2:50:18.6.
I don't know if I can get my marathon mug. The rules say you
have to have a witness that writes down your meters at various times during the
row. I was all alone when I did mine, so no witness. I sent an email to C2
saying I would send a photo of the monitor, but no one has answered it. Maybe
I'll call. I could include a photo of my blisters as more evidence!
I'm
going to go check our meters now and see how close we are to catching #4. We've
added so many members, and all these marathons have got to be making a big
difference (that is, as long as they don't take the place of regular maters, but
are additional....I'm going to row today, but these hands are NOT going to like
it).

Did have the intention of
doing a full marathon, but in the end I decided it wasn't on. Mind you, after 10
days off over Xmas and New Year, followed by 6 days on, then another 7 days off,
I guess getting on and doing a marathon straight off was a bit unlikely. At
first I had a target of 3:10, then that fell to 3:15. By the time I called it
quits, I was on a target of about 3:22 and I couldn't face another 40 minutes. I
had to stop more than I wanted, too, because of the dog wanting to go out.
=)
Oh, I didn't have anything to eat yet today apart from a bowl of
cereal at 8am, so again not really the best preparation.
Still, it brings my total for the week to... um...
33,683m. =)

Hi all
Completed my first marathon on
Saturday - 3hrs 20mins 41 secs. It didn't help that I had a whole group of rugby
league players coming in and out of the small gym where the concept2 is
housed.
Question for the Aussie taffs. Is rugby league the biggest sport
in Australia? The guy who owns the place I'm staying in Leeds is called David
Ward and was Great Britain rugby league captain in the late 70s, early 80s. He
says it is and I say it is too, because I never argue with guys twice the size
of me, but I suspect it isn't, especially as you have that Australian 'No-rules'
football game.
Great achievements from all the other marathoners. I'm not

Hey everyone--
Team Oarsome seems to be onto a fun
sort of motivational idea. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but they have a
team challenge, a different one every week, that they vote on to decide what it
is. And then they all do it, and somehow there are points given, one chart for
absolute performance and another chart done something like Nonathlon
somehow.
It looks like it could be a fun thing to do, to have one workout
a week be this challenge thing that we all try to accomplish.
Anyone
interested in trying to do something like that? It looks like this week's Taff
challenge was marathons.

I know a lot of you are following training routines and
are racing etc. I can only view all of you efforts and wonder can i ever achive
that. I did the most i have done today so far, i did 10,000 in 42.31 had a quick
drink and then did another 4,000 at a bit slower pace. I know compared to you
lot thats probably nothing but it is the most i have done so far. One of the
main reasons for this was that i couldnt get past 7,000 before without my bum
burning like hell. Firstly is that normal to get a burn like that ? it doesnt
come on now until about 9,000. So to get to the point i would like some sort of
challenge to get me more involved in competing against each other and i know i
would be at the lower end but it gives me something to work against.

Hey Porky,
I'm not following a proper training
regimen at all, and I don't have the courage to race at a real race. Just
thought it would be fun to have a community goal for each week!
I don't
get a sore bum from rowing at all, don't use a pad, or padded shorts, but some
people do and say it helps. I've heard some people use bubble wrap (on the seat,
not their bum)!, C2 sells foam seat pads, and padded rowing shorts, and if I'm
not mistaken, Byron Drachman (fellow Taff) uses some sort of an air mattress pad
thing. Part of it is just getting used to the motion & the sitting, as you
can see by the way the soreness has been starting for you after more meters now,
but some people always need a pad. I know Mary Perrot, who is one of the best
women rowers out there, uses a pad when she does a marathon.
Good luck,

Porky lad,
every one of us
started as newbee. At some point in time all of us said to ourselves the same
thing that you've stated above. 'Will I ever be able to?'. What ever that goal
was. Whether it be staying on the beast long enough to make our bums ache, or
just pulling 100m. Remember that the next time the question comes into your
head. How you answer it, will be up to you.
FYI - The only time I really
get that arse pain, is when I'm in a boat. And always the left side. Probably
the way I set myself in the shell.
As far as the challenge goes, how's
this.....between now and the end of the ranking season (30 April), add another 2
million meters to your total. That would average you out to 19,418 meters/day.
You want the challenge???? Give it a shot
