I've been plugging away gently trying to fit in somw metres whenever possible but have been doing a lot of travelling so it has been tough. No chance of entering the row till you drop challenge.
I found a very old concept2 in a hotel in centre of ANtwerp thiss week, I managed to do a 4K but as soon as I tried doing anything under 1.50 it just started wandering around the gym so gave up and did some weights.

I plan to be at both BIRC and Cardiff. Still pushing for sub 6.30 but with work having got in the way of my training plans I am not too confident.

Thanks Phil...I've been in London/Edinburgh all week and managed to get a few rows in but nothing really special. Went for the row till you drop this morning and blew up at about 25k mad.gif The week of traveling had taken its toll.

Fancy a joint training session some time? Niall was interested as well. Also are you going to Madrid this week for BBWF?

Oops, I have to do my 2 hour session today, whether it will count for "Row till You Drop" Challenge or not...last night got messed up, I had a bike fitting and then when I got home everyone wanted dinner, and family stuff just kind of took over. So I'll do it today sometime.

Turns out my new bike, that I was so excited about, was not fit out to me very well and was causing me knee problems and other stuff. I have a new handlebar stem on order. Seat needed to go down, handlebars up an inch, and 2" closer to seat. No wonder it felt odd and I couldn't get any power. I can't wait to see how much better it is when I get it back. Fingers are crossed!!!!

Seem to be struggling with these quotes.
Yes, I fancy a joint training session but I don't see tio happening for a few weeks.
I will be in Madrid from Monday to Thursday, I haven't had a chance to see if the hotel has a decent gym.

Hi all

Rowed a half marathon rather than two hours as I had other matters to attend to.

Tests tomorrow and then an hour on Monday morning.

Good stuff....I'll see you in Madrid. Not sure where I'm staying yet (or how I'm getting there) but we should catch up for a beer or two biggrin.gif

I did another 28k this morning which brings the w/e to 52k which isn't too shabby. Looks like the next long haul row will have to wait till next w/e.

Also my 1 million meter T-shirt finally turned up just in time for me to apply for my 2 million goodies.

Wilko. A nice bit of understatement there! Very impressive indeed.

Managed a total of 10k today including a quick test. I think I'm on track and nothing more. Still a long way to go. But there has been a great improvement over the past two week; so the distance work has done it's job.

An hour in the morning from now onwards should help me attain the kind of health and fitness I think I'll need.

I will probably have a race before the season ends, but I'm not sure whether it will be BIRC. I'll leave it up right up until the last minute before I decide.

Indeed an understatement. I'd be well pleased with 52k over the weekend.

According to my training plan I was meant to do a 2K test today but couldn't motivate myself for taht so tried to do 2 * 20' at UT1. Managed the first piece Ok (1.46.7) and felt fine after it but had to stop for a short breather half way through second piece.
With warm up and cool down it was a total of 15K so not too bad.

Good for you, Mike! Have you got a Taff All-in-one suit to show off your svelte figure?

Happy Birthday Ramboyo!

Hey Phil...only 377 meters to go for your 500K this season biggrin.gif

Wilco, you are really piling those meters up. I think you are closing the gap with Team Oarsome!

Lynsey, I think I might beat you to 500K, after all. Are you playing?

sad.gif I really wimped out Saturday and never did my second shot at the long row. Excuse: went for a bike ride (it was a gorgeous day) which was only supposed to be a 20 mile little funsy ride. But I got VERY lost and it ended up being 40, and because I was supposed to be picking up my daughter at karate, was in panic going too fast mode, except when I was stopped asking directions and then forgetting them and missing turns. By the time I got back home I just didn't have it to row at all!

Alright folks, this is getting silly. We just got passed up by yet another club. Let's seriously get on the ball and get those meters a crankin'.

We had company tonight and just ate a big desert. I was going to take tonight off, but I'll do my 10K. It's going to be a burpy 10K but it will count! I'll do another 10Ktomorrow. We are going away Friday through Monday (camping trip, so I'll be biking).

Lynsey, here's your chance to catch up and pass me to 500K! Are you gonna? tongue.gif Huh? Huh? ohmy.gif Come on and beat me and rack up some more meters in the Taffy Bank!!!!

Hey there Taffs. Just got an email from a frenchmen saying that they wanted to join TA. They have 1.1 million meters logged so far.

If I remember correctly, Chris and Chippy once said that if you could find Wales on a map, then you could join in. So...that's exactly what I replied. Hopefully we'll be getting another member, and another million+ meters as well.

Phil,

More than happy to welcome you in, you've been an active 'non-member' for so long anyway.

Chippy on holiday this week, he'll go spare - your 800m in front of him. Game On!

Guess this means we'll have to lay off trying to sink your boat.
Prufrock
Hi

I'm hoping to complete 500k by the end of this week(Sunday is definitely a rest day for me). Did some interval training with 2500 metre warmup and warm down, making a total of 8000 metres for the day. This is lower than usual but necessarily so.

1.5 hour row tomorrow morning to recover from the exertion of today's row.

Now we are ahead of Team Oarsome we will have to work very hard to stay ahead. I doubt they're going to take us jumping over them lightly.

Bernard

I've just had a look at the standings and we are over a million metres ahead of Team Oarsome, thanks to Scott and Phil(Sir Pirate). Happy days!

Not sure about the seasoned veteran tag (only done four so far) but what I would say is this:

- enjoy it
- make sure you fuel up beforehand (especially liquid); don't want you dying like I did at Enfield sad.gif
- complete your warmup 10 mins before you compete
- try not to get distracted by cropped tops tongue.gif
- enjoy it
- try and get someone to cox you to count down your race start strokes and then keep you focused on the race plan (you'll have a race plan right?).
- Take some time the night before to visualise the race according to your race plan and then do the same on the day just to reinforce it
- Stick to the race plan (don't let the excitement of the event get to you)
- enjoy it
- and, finally, get some photos of yourself so we can put them on the website.

Alternatively:

** My first race was the day after a Wales v Ireland international, and I had drank about 10 Pints of Guiness the day before. Got home in 7:08.
** Obviously drink lots of water on the day thou. I get nervous and have to take 7 trips to the toilet (No 2's) prior to the race - I always make sure the last visit is a 'lucky one!"
** On that note alwyas wear your favourite 'lucky pants'
** When you race - go as fast as you can, and hang on for as long as you can - otherwise you aint in it. But always FINISH
** If you can find a way without anyone else noticing - cheat
** With 400 meters left say (think) 'time to wind it up now boy"
** Concentrate on the pace, not meters left, take your mind on a journey 'away from the pain'
** We cant be there (if we could we would (and maybe will one day)), but if we were we'd be screaming (and I mean screaming) C'MON YA KILLING 'EM! - so picture it and go for it.

Great tips thanks Chris and Niall, after combining all that I should be on FIRE come Race time ! One of the chaps I'm 'training' at the gym said he would be there on the day, so he can be the 'cox' and belt out a few bars of 'Men of Harlech' with 400m to go. I tried to talk him into entering too but he begged off, claiming his big boozy birthday bash the night before the race would render him ineffective - I'll try your pre-race story on him Chris to see if I can change his mind laugh.gif

Niall - not sure which race plan suggestion to adopt, Chris's ("go out hard and hammer it out ...") or your's ("enjoy it" i.e. go out gently and potter along, pulling up nice and fresh for the post race accolades). Think I like yours much better laugh.gif

Raring to go already thanks guys,
